General Information
Department of Mechanical Engineering is active since 1937 as a department in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering which is one of the nine faculties of Yıldız Technical University. The first undergraduate education has begun in 1937 at the department. Still now, in addition to undergraduate education, there are graduate programmes (MSc and Ph.D.) and research activities going on.
MISSION The mission of the mechanical engineering department is to strive to graduate the mechanical engineers who can do research and development, are open to team work and multidisciplinary co-operation, are innovative and take initiatives, have analytical skills, can apply the fundamentals of mechanical engineering to solve problems encountered in industry and have the capacity for life long learning To train PhD students who can do research creatively, develop new knowledge and technology.
VISION To graduate engineers to be mostly preferred by industry. To be a university which is the choice of the best faculty and students To become a leader in the scientific and technological areas
GOALS Train the students to have theoretical background in basic sciences and engineering Encourage team work, collaboration and development of interpersonal skills Motivate the students towards contributing to the progress of science and technology Attract high quality undergraduate and graduate students Offer high quality graduate program for PhD and master students Train the engineers who are in touch with scientific and technological world. Provide our students with an excellent undergraduate education to prepare them for graduate school as well as for successful professional careers anywhere in the world Educate them to have solid technical background and appropriate analytical skills needed for successful professional careers
Degrees Offered: Mechanical Engineering B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D. There are six divisions at the Department of Mechanical Engineering:
Educatıonal Programs: Comprehensive Basic and fundamental topics of mechanical engineering are thought in this program. Since the courses are the collection of the subjects of other programs, the students are able to concentrate themselves to the topic they prefer. Energy Machinery This program provides engineers for the power plants, automotive, marine and general industry and it contains selective courses in the topics of energy sources, production and planning, energy machinery (engines, steam and gas turbines and pumps), energy economics and power plants. Heat Process Techniques In this program, students are educated in fields of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, cooling techniques, process techniques, steam engines and AC systems. Manufacturing Manufacturing engineering program educates students in the field of classical and modern manufacturing techniques on metallic and non-metallic materials which are widely used in the industry. Design The machinery in which hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical excitation is employed, and the ones that computer control is used are thought to be designed. |
